Game Jam Games

Ludum Dare, Global Game Jam, Board Game jam

These games are made during what is known as a “game jam”. These usually take a few days, in which teams try to develop a game that incorporates a specific theme. Game jams provide us with short, condensed moments in which we create a lot of ideas, content, and unique gameplay in a short amount of time, to find out if it works. We don’t go into game jams with the goal of creating a game that we can sell or even a game that is fully complete. It’s all about experimentation. Most of the time we are able to reuse ideas or mechanisms that turned out really well. There is always something new to learn, be it workflows, techniques, or new art styles. Game jams are a great opportunity to work with different people either inside or outside the company. Even though it is an intense experience and we work long hours during a jam, it provides us with new insights, energy, and creative stimulation. Game jams and rapid prototyping are great ways to keep our games fresh and unique.
